Hot Fun in the Summertime

We know summer has arrived in Phoenix when the temps pass 110°. Before the summer solstice. Fortunately, the high pressure system has passed for the time being. All that being said, the temps soared to 122°, June 26, 1990. I hope never to see those temps again. I had the worst migraine that day.

The year of 2026 has had a rough start. We’ve lost three people we loved/cared about. My ex-son-in-law passed near Christmas, my sweet brother-in-law passed in April, and a young lady I was becoming very fond of passed last week. She was special, too. Not more special than Joaquin or Bob, but fresh, naive, and strong. I’m leaving her name off this post. Her life prior to us becoming closely acquainted with her, was difficult. I first met her when she was under the influence of methamphetamines, and who knows what else. One day, I called her parole officer (sneaky me, I got the woman’s card). My special friend went to jail for like six months. When she got out, she was sober. She went into a program. She stayed sober, working a job, and doing pretty well. Unfortunately, the years of drug use took a huge toll on her heart. She finally had a massive heart attack last week. She died probably immediately. She had put organ donor on her ID. Except for her heart, her organs went to other people to give them a fuller, healthier life.

Now this is all very sad. There’s so much more to say as well, but most importantly, my special friend had asked Jesus into her heart. She loved Him deeply. She stayed strong and true until He took her off this difficult plane of existence, ushering her into heaven. She leaves behind family, friends like us, her sons who live back east. What she doesn’t leave is how much we all love her. We are jealous of Jesus. He gets to enjoy her now forever. We get to miss her until we who believe that Jesus is Lord, get to see her again one day.

Please pardon me if I can’t bring myself to finish my current manuscript. I need a bit of time. When I do, the story will be dedicated to someone unique. In the meantime, the Dirty End of the Needle book on my book page, covers what happens to people who struggle with addiction. The story is edgy. There are difficult parts. This one is definitely R17 rated. If there’s addiction in your life or you family, there’s also hope.
