Several years ago, I started a new story. Then I stopped writing said story. Then my sister, Susan Wingate said, “You should write a story about…” Her topic was what I had begun years before. Needless to say, I reviewed, reworked, re-edited that manuscript. I have to say, this story is unlike anything I’ve written before.
I tend towards sweet fiction or historical fiction. This book is literary fiction. The story is about two brothers. The two are at odds with one another (or the story would be boring). You know the idea. One is a decent fellow who wants his family to be proud of him. The other is arrogant and selfish, not caring about what his family thinks… The title? (drum roll) The Dirty End of the Needle. Here’s the synopsis:
Luke slammed the front door. He stormed to his car, getting in. The car was the little Honda Civic Papa bought him when he turned sixteen. He roared toward the highway as heat waves rose off the road that scorching summer morning.
From the front porch, Theo watched the dust blow up off the driveway as Luke raced down the road. Shaking his head in disgust, he turned away to his work.
Papa’s once strong frame slowly wilted after Luke drove out of the driveway that day. Like the sensitive plants Mother nursed in front of the porch, he struggled against the heat of Luke’s wrath.
I have some work to do on the cover. I’ve decided the one I made isn’t quite the way I want it to be. I like my own photography for my stories as well. Tomorrow I have to go our to see if I can shoot the right scene, otherwise this will take a bit longer than I hoped. That’s all that needs to be done. Then sweetie the hubby will upload the whole thing to the publisher. Wee wee wee, all the way home.
In the meantime, TJ and I are well. The weather in Phoenix is awesome, and we are working toward going to Tombstone next weekend for the Tombstone Western Writers event! Click here, or see our event page for information!
