No Cure for the Summertime Blues

The typical hot weather of Phoenix took it’s ever-loving time getting here. But did that make me unhappy? NO! The temps remained at or under 100* until the actual summer solstice.

Now we await the wind shift that brings the monsoon season to the desert. I love the monsoon season. Yes, the weather remains hot, but the storms come through, roaring like trains across the blistering sand and stone. Relief comes in huge drops, warm rains, lightning. Thunder. Previous to that, are the haboobs-the dust storms-driving man and beast inside until they pass. I’m praying the winter/spring rains are a good ‘omen’ for the summer rains. I don’t truly believe in omens, but my hope is we’ll get pounded all over the state this summer.

In the meantime, tomorrow is July 4th! Independence Day! Which takes me to the movie of the same name… TJ and I love that movie. Watching our heroes pound the aliens makes us happy. At the end we cheer for the humans, who are the underdogs, after joining forces across the world. Hurray!

I love this country. Someone told me people around the world consider our current government regime to be very corrupt. This makes me so sad. I think this person is correct, given the miserable state we’re in. I pray to God Almighty to help us do something to fix that corruption. Those are not the traits upon which this country was founded. Our song America the Beautiful describes so much more than what the media tells us (or doesn’t tell us). This country has existed almost 250 years. We the People need to rise up, peacefully, to run corruption out of all the dark corners. That being said, my blogs aren’t political places. I’m moving on.

TJ is working to finish up the book we were calling Lost at Sea. We need to change the name, though. He used part of the story in an anthology of short stories, but the entire story isn’t about this. The antagonist is lost at sea for a while, but the entire story is something quite different. There’s all sorts of adventure, but the story is modern stuff that isn’t science fiction or fantasy.

I, in the meantime, am working on a literary fiction story based on the story of the Prodigal Brother from the Bible. This story will have an edge to it that I don’t usually write. But if a writer wants to be relevant, they have to expand. Hopefully, I’m expanding. Sweet fiction has its place, but this story won’t be that. I probably will write more sweet fiction in the future, but this book ain’t that. I will write more historical fiction, as well. In the meantime, I’m also working on a sequel to Death at Hell’s Canyon Quarry, which is a murder/mystery, so there’s that!

We are possibly going to be at the Butcher Block near Roosevelt Lake, this coming Friday. Besides the arts and crafts sales, and the authors/books, there will be an apple pie contest. Because our life became unexpectedly complicated last week, we are not sure if we will be attending. We are attending the Payson Author and Artist Festival, July 15, at the Mazatzal Casino in Payson. The festival is open from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. If you’re in Arizona, or close by, you should join us. Payson is pretty nice this time of year.

As always, please forward to your social media if you want, and send me a response. We love to hear from you! The Mirror Gate Chronicles Team.
